Review: Tires: Specialized Armadillo Clinchers
After suffering a large number of flats on my Vredestein TriComps, I decided to give the Specialized Armadillos a try.
I must say that I wasted a lot of money on tubes and time standing by the side of the road changing tires. Sure, I am an expert now when it
comes to taking a tire tread off of a rim whether the rim is aluminum or carbon. Anyway, the treads are rather fast. However, this does not
stand up to the amount of flatting that happens. A second point of contention with these tires lies in the fact that I had two have sidewall
blow outs. In 4 years of riding, I have only had 3 sidewall blow outs. One on a Continental Grand Prix 3000, and unfortunately two on these treads.
Both were when I was riding in flat, clean roads. The workmanship of the tires is a very big concern to me. With the treads costing over $40,
I cannot be replacing treads as fast as a pair of socks. I would expect these tires to last many thousands of kilometers. However, this
is not the fact, and I have ceased putting these treads on my bike. Though, I have made tire patches out of them.
