Going Green - Alternative Fuels, Energy, Being Responsible

Catching your own rain? Avoiding large amounts of runoff?

Ideas such as these have intrigued me for a long time. Why don't we collect our own rainwater? Millions of gallons of water fall from the sky in the form of rain, snow, and ice during various seasons of the year. Why not harvest some of the bounty? In my searching of the web, I have collected a few sites that help to give individuals, families, and organizations information regarding this very idea. True, some states in the union have laws on the books that make it illegal for individuals to collect rain water since it is believed that rain water is a collective instead of an individual resource. Interesting. With rivers in the southwestern United States not even reaching the ocean any more and over irrigation of our natural aquifers, where else will we find the large quantities of water to survive, let alone irrigate millions of acres of crops.

This may not be the final solution to our water problems. But it may help alleviate the need for water in some areas of the world.

Many of the web sites below offer help in how to install harvesting rain water systems, legal challenges, and tax incentives. Happy harvesting!
