Bicycle Part Buying - Shimano Dura-Ace, Ultegra, or 105
It is time to buy some new gear. Now what series of parts will you spend your hard earned money? Hands down, I would
suggest that you should spend your money on Ultegra level parts. Sure, your bike already weighs 15.85 lbs, but shelling out $175 for a Shimano
Dura-Ace cassette might give you a psychological help in your racing, but for most mere mortals, stick with the Ultegra level stuff. Why do I say that? Most importantly, Ultegra is more durable than either Dura-Ace or 105. It costs what, $15 to $20 more than 105, but weights about the same. It is all about the coatings on the metal that Shimano does so nicely. The Dura-Ace stuff uses more exotic metals like titanium. But Ti has the disadvantage of more wear. Save the $100+ and buy an Ultegra level cassette. Return to the bike area |
